Hélène Labadie FR, b. 1991

Hélène Labadie has developed a distinctive practice between sculpture, installation, and cinematic imagination. Through everyday objects and forms, she constructs characters and settings that seem to belong to a film we never get to see. In 2024, together with Maxime Testu, she co-founded STRIKE, an independent space dedicated to experimental artistic practices, extending her interest in artistic creation beyond her own work.

Architecture and space also occupy a central place in her practice. Labadie constructs her works as fragments of settings, where objects cease to function as isolated elements and become part of a spatial narrative. Her work thus explores the relationship between space and memory, creating environments that feel familiar but, once transformed, exist somewhere between reality and imagination.

Cinema and popular culture are recurring references in her work, particularly the imagery of classic Hollywood. In works such as The Shifting Architecture of My Memories, Labadie transforms characters, spaces, and memories into compositions that evoke a cinematic scene without fully revealing the story behind it.

Throughout her career, Labadie has developed different series and projects that reflect the evolution of her relationship with the object. From Les Noirs, presented at Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche in 2018, where her pieces began to acquire an almost anthropomorphic dimension, to more recent works such as Les Maudits and Dead End, her practice has progressively expanded its materials, references, and narrative possibilities. Her work has also been presented at institutions such as the Musée Cognacq-Jay and the Fondation Pernod Ricard, consolidating a practice that moves between design, sculpture, and installation.
