Maya Hottarek’s artistic practice focuses on articulating the complex interactions between the individual, society and the economy. The connection to human nature is one of the most fundamental aspects in her work. By relating everyday life, her practice adresses the simplicity of complex subject areas, leading to new insights in notions of perception and conceptions of reality.
Hottarek’s comprehensive installations make use of various materials, including ceramics, collages, manual printing processes and found objects. Sound and video are often used to connect elements of her scupltural installations.
After completing her Bachelor’s degree at the HKB in Bern and a Master’s degree at the Institute of Art, Gender and Nature in Basel (FHNW) she has showcased her work in numerous exhibitons, including LISTE Art Fair Basel, Kunsthaus Baselland, Kunstmuseum Appenzell and at CAN Centre d’Art Neuchâtel.
